Nike is a major American sportswear and footwear company, based in Portland, Oregon. 1966, growing profits allowed for the first retail space to be opened in Santa Monica, California. Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, and the Swoosh trademark were introduced in 1971. 1980, Nike had attained a 50% market share in the U.S. athletic shoe market and over the following twenty years went on to gain a huge international presence.
